Several members of the Upper Sandusky Chapter Order of DeMolay were recognized and acknowledged at the Ohio DeMolay Conclave held at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio last week.
Aaron Lortz, a Past Master Councilor of Upper Sandusky DeMolay, received the degree of Chevalier. It is the highest honor that can be bestowed on a DeMolay member. Aaron was one of six DeMolay members in Ohio to receive this honor at this session.
Matthew Heffelfinger, current Master Councilor of Upper Sandusky Chapter, was presented with the Representative DeMolay Award and the Lamp of Knowledge. The Representative DeMolay Award acknowledges the completion of an in-depth self-evaluation process, and the Lamp of Knowledge indicates that the individual has completed all five sections of the DeMolay Leadership Correspondence Course.
Ohio DeMolay has a significant scholarship program for DeMolays in further education who maintain a 3.5 accumulative grade point average. Two Upper Sandusky DeMolay received $7,500 scholarships. Aaron Lortz, a recent graduate of Carey High School, who will be attending the University of Findlay in Animal Science/Pre-Vet. Samuel Bailey, a graduate of Valparaiso University in Meteorology, who will be attending the University of Alabama in Huntsville while pursuing his Master’s Degree in Meteorology.
The Order of DeMolay offers young men between the ages of 12 and 21 a place to belong, an opportunity to work and develop leadership with other quality young men, and a purpose driven way to invest their time and energy. Squires offers a similar program for boys 9 – 11 years of age. In DeMolay, a boy can find worthwhile activities in a positive environment with the assistance of committed mentors and advisors. DeMolay chapters are sponsored by local Freemasons.
Upper Sandusky Chapter generally meet on the 2nd and 4th Sundays each month at 2:00 PM, at the Upper Sandusky Masonic Center, 118 W Johnson St., Upper Sandusky OH 43351. They also participate in a variety of chapter activities throughout the year. More information can be found at www.USDeMolay.com
